Maintenance WorkerThe City of Hays’ Solid Waste Division is looking for a dependable Maintenance Worker to assist in providing reliable services to the citizens of Hays. Duties include collecting and processing recyclable materials and special collection items, operating the City’s Compost Site, operating and maintaining departmental trucks and equipment, perform safety inspections and serve as a refuse collector when needed.
Typical working days include Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This position may be required to work a flexible work schedule as needed.
REQUIREMENTSValid driver’s license required. The ideal candidate would have the ability to read and interpret written instructions, maps, and service manuals and have the ability operate equipment. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, machinery, excessive noise and all types of weather conditions is expected. Strong communication & mechanical skills required. This position requires a CDL Class B within 6 months of employment and has a residency requirement of a 40-minute response time.
COMPENSATIONFull Pay Range: $14.21 - $21.97/hour. Starting wage based on experience with step increases each year.
