The Assistant Director supports the executive responsibilities of the Director by carrying out both strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations of the Honors College. The Assistant Director supervises and manages Honors College student employees and peer mentors.  The Assistant Director has primary responsibility for developing and maintaining data assurance and documentation.  The Assistant Director directly serves the Honors College’s recruiting and engagement mission through communication, student support, mentorship, and inclusion. The Assistant Director will manage the office in the absence of the Director.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Supervisory and Managerial Duties
  • Supervise Honors College student employees (Recruiting Coordinator; Student Success and Engagement Coordinator; Honors Ambassadors) and volunteer Honors Peer Mentors.
  • Train student employees and Peer Mentors.
  • Serve as Chair of the Honors College Admissions Committee.
  • Work with Director to manage and implement holistic program policies that support the engagement mission of the Honors College.
  • Coordinate with Financial Assistance, Residential Life, Registrar, Admissions, Student Affairs, Accessibility Services and other offices on Honors College student needs.

Student Success and Retention Duties
  • Monitor student academic performance and overall wellbeing.
  • Supplement the work of academic advisors by working with students on academic enrichment, co-curricular, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Provide individual support/advisement on career, academic, and personal/emotional concerns including accessibility/accommodation needs.
  • Maintain a positive, supportive atmosphere in Honors College spaces.
  • Coordinate student retention events.

Budgeting and Financial Affairs Duties
  • Manage and process budget and expenses.
  • Manage travel expenses and reimbursements.
  • Work with FHSU Financial Assistance on Honors College and other scholarship awards.

Data Assurance, Documentation, and Workflow Management Duties
  • Produce reports, contribute to program evaluation and assessment, and manage program data and records through Workday, MS Office, HubSpot, and other IT systems.
  • Assist Director with strategic planning, workflow execution, donor development, policy, documentation, and communication.

Recruiting, Communication, and Marketing Duties
  • Work together with the Director as the public face of the Honors College to share with stakeholders, families, and prospective students how the Honors College enriches FHSU’s overall educational and engagement mission.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities on and off-campus, including online.
  • Develop relationships and communicate effectively with other campus, local, and statewide/nationwide organizations and institutions.
  • Assist Director in developing and maintaining recruiting contacts in schools, community colleges, and other educational institutions and modalities.
  • Manage, design, and create content for program website, social media, and printed media.
  • Coordinate alumni and donor events.

Office Management, Event Planning, and Other Duties
  • Manage Honors College space, equipment, and office supply needs.
  • Assist in coordinating student recognition and other events as well as assist in the annual graduate recognition.
  • Organize and facilitate Honors new student orientation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Must exercise discretion when working with sensitive student concerns.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years of experience in a higher education setting.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and Teams.
  • High degree of discretion when working with sensitive or confidential student concerns.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (effective interaction with families, students, faculty, and staff).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in student affairs, student advising, and/or student engagement.
  • Experience with principles and practices of Honors education.
  • Strong planning, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively learn and use Workday and Google Workspace applications.
  • Familiarity with FERPA requirements, Title IX regulations, and general financial aid questions.
  • Experience with National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) best practices in assessment and inclusion.

Appointment Date:  The start date will be determined after acceptance of an offer and successful completion of a background check.
