G.I.S. TECHNICIAN The City of Hays is looking for a reliable and hardworking G.I.S. Technician. This position maintains the city’s electronic mapping system, provides G.I.S. training and technical guidance to users and staff, and maintains, updates, and designs shapefiles and geospatial databases. This position will develop new G.I.S. datasets through collecting source materials, data entry, and digitization.
Normal schedule for this position is Monday – Thursday 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. & Friday 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. with an alternative work schedule allowed to help achieve a work/life balance.
REQUIREMENTS Valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or GED required. Prior G.I.S. experience or education is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate would have excellent technical, communications, organizational, and public relation skills. Thorough knowledge of the Microsoft operating system including Microsoft server editions and the ability to interpret developers’ maps and plans along with knowledge of modern electronic mapping is required. Applicant must reside within a 40-minute response time of Hays within 6 months of employment. Job offer is contingent on passing a pre-employment physical.
COMPENSATION 2024 Salary range begins at $21.38/hr. Guaranteed raises every year. Starting wage based on experience.
