Health and Wellness Services is seeking a Mental Health Counselor/Therapist. This position will provide personal counseling to FHSU campus community. They will act as a mental health liaison to the Kansas Academy for Math and Science (KAMS) and the Academy for Math and Science (AMS) working with the high school students eligible for these early college programs. A successful candidate should have the ability to develop strong working relationships with diverse communities and interact effectively within the campus community regarding mental health issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree completed in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field.
- License or license-eligible within professional field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with a high school or young adult population.
- Professional experience within the counseling field.
- Previous experience working with a culturally diverse population.
- Experience with crisis management.
- Experience providing presentations and working within a team.
- Excellent writing and computer skills as evidenced by application documents.
Responsibilities:
- Provide counseling services to the FHSU Campus Community.
- Provide overall care assessment, crisis intervention services, and community referrals in conjunction with Health and Wellness Staff.
- Maintain records and documentation of clinical services, in compliance with law, ethics and best practices.
- Provide programming and assistance to Early College Program Students focused on helping them succeed and navigating challenges.
- Develop and implement a curriculum that addresses the following but is not limited to: Time management, Relationship building, Decision Making, Goal Setting, Growth Mindset, Resourceful, Critical thinking, Self Awareness, Leadership, Healthy Habits.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and training activities in KAMS/AMS.
- Attend Early College Program events to build and maintain relationships with students.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and training activities in Health and Wellness. Pursue professional development related to the responsibilities of the position and profession.
- Participate in Student Affairs’ staff meetings and serve as a member of various Student Affairs’ committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
