Sunflower Electric Power Corporation, a generation and transmission utility serving central and western Kansas, is hiring a Metering Technician Apprentice – Journey in either Dodge City, KS or Great Bend, KS- where your professional growth and expertise are valued, and safety is always top priority. Enjoy hands-on work diagnosing, repairing, installing, and upgrading revenue metering systems and related equipment, including electronic meters, instrument transformers, and communications hardware across our vast system.
What You'll Do:
- Assist with operating meter test equipment required to test and diagnose electric metering circuits and equipment.
- Work with direct current (dc) from 12 to 140 volts and alternating current (ac) from 69 to 240 volts with exposure to voltages up to 345 kV.

QualificationsApprentice Qualifications:
- Certificate Program in electrical technology or a related field and one year of commercial or industrial electrical experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades Selection System (CAST) EEI Test.
Journey Qualifications:
- Certificate Program in electrical technology or a related field and four years electric metering experience with increasingly responsible duties related to the installation and maintenance of electrical and electronic metering equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades Selection System (CAST) EEI Test.
Applicants hired will be placed into the Sunflower Substation Apprenticeship Program based on relevant experience and education.
EEI Testing:
We administer selection tests for a variety of positions. The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies. We strongly encourage candidates to review all the information, including the sample test brochures, and to use the available practice tests before taking the actual tests, available here:
Practice tests provide sample questions and detailed discussions of the correct answers. It's important to take the practice test as you would the actual one, with similar intensity and concentration. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.
Note: EEI does not allow access to the actual tests. Testing sessions are held at various locations.
