The Blackboard Administrator serves as the primary administrator for the university's learning management system (Blackboard) and its integrated educational technology ecosystem. This position provides technical leadership by overseeing system upgrades, ensuring security and functionality, and implementing new features to meet institutional needs. The role includes designing and conducting workshops tailored to faculty, staff, and students, as well as creating training materials to promote best practices in instructional technology across all teaching modalities. Additionally, the Blackboard Administrator supervises student employees, providing training, managing schedules, and evaluating performance, ensuring effective technical support for the university community. This position also collaborates with stakeholders to manage integrations with other educational tools and ensures compliance with accessibility standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- An associate or bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and resolving technical issues within an educational technology environment
- Demonstrated experience with the administration of educational technology systems, including learning management systems (LMS)
- Demonstrated experience working with educational technology tools and their integrations with other systems (e.g. LMS LTI)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- One year of customer service experience, preferably in a technology or educational support role
- Experience analyzing data and producing reports to inform decision-making or improve processes
- Experience supervising and mentoring support staff, fostering growth and team development
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in educational/Instructional Technology, Education, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Experience administering Blackboard Learn or similar enterprise LMS
- Experience managing educational technology integrations and collaborating with external vendors to ensure seamless implementation and system interoperability
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives
- Experience designing, implementing, and delivering technology support training programs
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and requirements for educational technology

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
LMS (Blackboard) Administration (50%)
- Manage Blackboard system administration, including upgrades, maintenance, and integrations
- Coordinate with Technology Services on system-level operations and decisions
- Oversee course lifecycle management (creation, archival, deletions, migrations)
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot technical issues
- Manage integration of third-party educational technology tools
- Generate and analyze system usage data, create comprehensive reports, and present actionable insights to stakeholders
Support Services Management (30%)
- Supervise and train student support team members
- Coordinate technical support services for faculty, staff, and students
- Develop and maintain documentation for support procedures
- Track and analyze support metrics and ticket resolution
- Create and maintain user guides and technical documentation
- Respond to escalated technical issues
Educational Technology Ecosystem (20%)
- Develop and implement support workshops for the ecosystem
- Evaluate and assess educational technology tools for potential integration
- Collaborate with vendors on implementation and support
- Participate in strategic planning for educational technology initiatives
- Assist with technology adoption and sunsetting processes
- Provide guidance on best practices for integrated tools
- Monitor and report on tool usage and effectiveness
Working Conditions:
- Full-time, on-campus position
- May require occasional evening/weekend work during system upgrades or emergencies
- Regular computer use required
