The Department of Psychology at Fort Hays State University is seeking applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of School Psychology. This position could be on-campus, hybrid, or virtual, as negotiated with the Department Chair and College Dean at the time of employment. The ideal candidate will be excited to provide instruction for various courses within our department, which offers on-campus and online undergraduate and graduate programs. Given that the majority of our graduate students are in school and clinical psychology, the ideal candidate will also value the importance of applied programs.

The FHSU School Psychology program provides innovative online programming to help address the persistent school psychologist shortages across the country. Our online program in school psychology is innovative for the field. Thus, the Department of Psychology is seeking an assistant professor who is excited and passionate about the future of school psychologist graduate preparation, which may require new approaches that depart from time-honored and traditional methods in the discipline.

Job Duties
Teaching responsibilities are 24 credit hours per year (12 per semester) with a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses, which could include on-campus or online courses. Additional teaching responsibilities could include academic advising and mentoring graduate students, supervising school psychology field placement, and/or contributing to reviewing and developing innovative graduate programming. The ideal candidate would demonstrate an appreciation of scholarship reflected in their interactions with our graduate and undergraduate students. Service to the department, university, your local community, and discipline at large is expected.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • A degree of Ed.S. with an emphasis in school psychology (degree must be conferred by date of appointment)
  • Current licensure in Kansas or home state as a school psychologist, or have the credential of NCSP
     
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in School Psychology or related field
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in designing and teaching on-campus and/or online classes
  • Record of scholarly activity and service to the larger community
  • Relevant experience as a school psychologist in a school or community setting

Faculty salaries are set at 90% of current College and University Professional Association (CUPA) averages by rank and discipline.

About the Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology has 12 full-time faculty members and approximately 450 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students. The Department offers a BA and BS in Psychology, two M.S. degrees with specialization in clinical and school psychology, and a school psychology Education Specialist degree (Ed.S.). The department has a tradition of involving undergraduate students in research, and the school psychology program enjoys close working relationships with local school districts. The department is excited to welcome a new faculty member to a collegial and innovative institution which is always willing to try something new and exciting to better educate and prepare our students.
