Work involves specialized and/or diverse administrative responsibilities and support to the dean of the Werth College of Science, Technology, and Mathematics. Duties include management of the office, administration of college-related communications, record management, and acting as a liaison and assisting with public relations and special projects. A successful candidate must have the ability to work independently, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and be highly detailed and organized. Positions at this level are expected to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and maintain security and confidentiality of office documents, records, and information.

Salary:  $15.06 per hour, plus benefits

Minimum Requirements: High-school diploma or GED equivalency and two years of office experience or two years of post-secondary education.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree;
Evidence of effective management of social media and webpages;
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities may include: 
  • Coordinate communication between the Dean's Office and the academic departments within the college;
  • Maintain organized system of data and records to be easily shared with the dean and/or others;
  • Plan, coordinate, and arrange meetings with multiple agencies or individuals;
  • Assist department chairs and administrative assistants on a daily basis;
  • Participate in interviewing, selecting, and coordinating employees;
  • Maintain department budget by overseeing accounts and purchasing for the office.
  • Plan travel arrangements and prepare travel reimbursements;
  • Coordinate maintenance of office equipment;
  • Oversee the stock of office supplies, equipment and forms;
  • Perform basic bookkeeping duties as preparing billings and vouchers, classifying and recording transactions, identifying and resolving discrepancies, reconciling numbers, and preparing transaction reports;
  • Prepare personnel transactions and maintain records of personnel actions;
  • Coordinate projects and special events, including securing facilities, inviting participants, and securing materials;
  • Compose and prepare correspondence of a sensitive, confidential nature;
  • Collect and analyze data to support college level decision making processes.
  • Design and assist with newsletters, publications, and reports for distribution to public officials and/or general public.

About the College: The Werth College of Science, Technology, and Mathematics (WCOSTM) was formed in 2015 by aggregating the departments of Agriculture, Applied Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geosciences, Mathematics, and Physics, as well as the Sternberg Museum of Natural History and the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. The academic units consist of approximately 75 full-time faculty, 1400 undergraduate majors, and 50 graduate students.
