Victor E. Apparel & Gift Co., the official Fort Hays State University store, is seeking a full-time manager. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to build on the foundation of an established retail operation that will soon be expanding product line and services and plays an active role in brand and community building at Fort Hays State University.

The Manager is a full-time, 12 month position reporting to the Memorial Union Director and serves as a member of the Memorial Union’s professional team within the Division of Student Affairs.  The Manager provides leadership for the operations of the campus spirit and gift store.  Responsibilities include the development of program procedures around customer engagement, procurement of inventory, organization and direction of daily store activities, supervision of student and graduate student store staff, interaction with key campus contacts, and assessment and management of financial goals.

 Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years of experience related to retail management, college stores, college unions, or auxiliary services in lieu of degree
  • Master’s degree in business administration or related field 
  • Demonstrated ability in management, supervision, marketing and financial operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills along with the ability to multitask and prioritize combined with strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong technology orientation and aptitude, including experience and proficiency with personal computers and productivity software such as such as Microsoft Office, as well as POS/inventory management systems.
  • Previous supervisory/management experience, preferably in a retail environment.
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Must be able to work nights and weekends if needed for coverage of special events and athletic game sales. This is an active job that requires standing, lifting and sitting at various times of the day. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds computer literacy is a must.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily retail operations through guidance and on-hand support.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student team lead and student employee staff.
  • Monitor sales, inventory, and other financial performance goals against budget, prior history, and other benchmarks, including monthly financial reporting.
  • Responsible for merchandise assortment, identifying collaborative partnership opportunities on campus, analyzing customer and campus needs, and coordinating timely feedback.
  • Ensures proper use of POS and inventory management systems to maintain accurate inventory, using proper receiving, invoice payment, accounts receivable, and customer sales processes, including managing e-commerce order activity.
  • Coordinates the development, implementation, and coordination of marketing and sales promotion activities with the campus calendar, including merchandising display, social media, and advertising.
  • Creating business strategies to attract new customers, expand store traffic, and enhance profitability.
  • Responsible for successful execution of events, which will include author signings, off-site pop-ups, sporting events, Grad Fest, and various partnership events (with campus and local community), open houses, commencement, etc.
  • Orders and manages regalia distribution for students and faculty for Commencement.
  • Along with the Director and Assistant Director of the Memorial Union, serve as part of the Union leadership team and provide direction and vision for overall Union operation
  • Serve as an active member of University and Divisional standing and ad hoc committees, including the Memorial Union Policy Board.
