The Area Admissions & Community Specialist is responsible for developing and recruiting students to FHSU, and curating relationships in southwest Kansas communities. This position will keep informed of community needs and develop regional sensitive strategies that will ultimately facilitate future enrollments. The Higher Education Opportunity Center has office hours Monday – Friday 8am – 4:30pm, when the position is not traveling. Traveling includes regular trips in southwest Kansas and to Hays. The individual selected for the position must live near Garden City, KS.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or four years of experience in lieu of degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or six years of experience in lieu of a degree
- Experience working in education
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- History of community involvement
Responsibilities:
- Recruitment of campus and online students
- The position serves as the main contact for the population in Southwest Kansas
- Communicate academic, scholarship, and financial opportunities to students
- Community relationship management
- Attend Garden City Community College’s Presidents Round Table
- Establish links and build relationships with all people in Southwest Kansas
- Actively pursue opportunities that involve FHSU in the community/region through sponsorships or presentations
- Publicize the Center to local and regional communities
- Serve as consultant to all local school districts regarding higher education issues
- Attend and participate in scheduled on-campus (Hays, KS) meetings, programs and events
- Research and advise on issues relating to the Hispanic community
- Monitor national, regional, and local trends
- Research and recommend outside grant and scholarship program opportunities
- Organize focus groups to provide assessment and monitor educational needs
- Monitor grant opportunities
- Working with University Relations and Marketing, develop marketing plan
- Spanish advertising, billboards, radio, television, sponsorships, bus trips, email, web site, Facebook, etc.
- Advise on placement and cultural opinions
- Provide programs that educate all students and families on information regarding how to apply for admission, scholarships and financial assistance to FHSU
