This is a full-time, benefits eligible position with a Sunday – Thursday, 8:00am to 5:00pm work schedule. A Facilities Maintenance Technician oversees general repairs and other maintenance needs for the Sternberg Museum. Monitor assigned areas and perform maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Must have good working knowledge of tools, materials, and methods used in general maintenance and repair work. A successful candidate must have the ability to problem solve, organize, and prioritize work. This position will cover the custodial duties during the weekend hours. All Sternberg Museum employees are involved in providing good customer service to museum visitors.
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have one year experience working in a maintenance capacity. A valid state driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree from a trades school
- More than one year of maintenance experience
- HVAC experience
- Experience with plumbing
- Electrical experience
- Experience maintaining/repairing custodial equipment

Responsibilities:
- Repair existing equipment, including ballasts, fixtures, and motors.
- Perform general plumbing maintenance and repairs.
- Repair plaster, ceilings, and drywall.
- Repair and provide upkeep to equipment and machinery.
- Paint facilities both internally and externally.
- Replace and repair ceiling tiles.
- Perform outdoor maintenance, including snow removal and mowing at the Sternberg Museum and Nature Trail.
- Assure all scheduled maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and professional manner.
- Perform regular examinations of fire and smoke alarms to ensure equipment remains in good working order.
- May assist with preparing the campus for hazardous weather.
- Carry out carpentry duties including the repair of furniture and counters.
- Install and provide upkeep to chalkboards, white boards, bulletin boards, signage, shelving, and other equipment.
- Order and maintain appropriate inventory.
