Ellis County Emergency Medical Services is hiring a full-time EMS Assistant Director. Share your leadership skills and play an important role in the training and development of the EMS team!
Job Description:
Under the supervision of the EMS Director, the EMS Assistant Director has operational responsibility for all EMS personnel. The employee in this position provides supervision for Paramedic/Shift Supervisors and provides training for staff and information for the public. The EMS Assistant Director acts without direct supervision and exercises independent judgment in handling emergencies as well as routine operations. This position will direct the care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and supplies.
Job Functions:
- Supervises all departmental personnel under the guidance of the EMS Director and Medical Director;
- Takes command and directs rescue and EMS activities at major incidents;
- Participates in patient care as needed;
- Assists EMS Director with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; coaching, mentoring and developing employees; discipline; complaints and resolving problems;
- Responsible for continuously assessing and improving the department performance in conjunction with improvement, quality, patient safety, risk management and patient satisfaction programs;
- Oversees, develops and participates in all activities that ensure the competency and professional development of EMS staff members;
- Maintains medical quality assurance through review of patient call reports, documented biomedical transmissions, observed job performance and coordinates the process with the medical director;
- Coordinates and integrates services within the department and with other organizations within Ellis county in accordance with the standards of the emergency medical services system;
- Maintains and documents annual certification and re-certification;
- Coordinates service delivery in the deployment of staff and equipment;
- Responsible for operation within budgetary guidelines;
- Schedules use of training equipment and supplies;
- Assists in the development and revision of medical protocols, standing orders, and other standard operating procedures;
- Directs the department’s CPR for Life program;
- Assists with researching the purchase of new equipment and the implementation of new programs;
- Coordinates with clerical staff the preparation and printing of written materials and general office business;
- Presents awareness programs to civic and educational groups; and
- Other related duties as deemed necessary or as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Familiarity with basic concepts of Electronic Medical Records (EMR), patient billing and Microsoft Office products.
- Knowledge of current emergency medical services practices within the current healthcare and emergency services industry.
- Knowledge of training requirements and techniques for emergency medical services including training for Paramedics.
- Knowledge of supervisory responsibilities and techniques.
- Skilled in interpersonal, oral, and written communication.
- Ability to evaluate medical procedures and protocols for efficiency and thoroughness.
- Ability to develop training methods and materials.
- Ability to analyze paramedic reports and determine compliance with protocols.
- Ability to effectively operate all department and EMS equipment.
- Ability to maintain departmental operations in absence of EMS Director.
Job Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of related experience is required. A current Kansas Certified Paramedic License is required. Certification as a Kansas Paramedic Instructor/Coordinator is preferred. A valid Kansas driver's license is required.
The successful candidate will be required to pass NIMS/ICS training (command level as per agency guidelines) within six (6) months of hire and become
Certified as a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor, Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within one (1) year of hire. The successful candidate will need to establish residency in Ellis County not more than ninety (90) days following his/her first day of employment with the County and maintain residency during employment.
