The Northwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging is accepting cover letters and resumes for a full time Employment and Benefits Specialist.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Associate's Degree; college business courses preferred
Strong computer and telephone skills
Ability to multi-task
Precise attention to details
Strong communication skills – oral and written
Ability to be a good public relations person for the agency
Have the knowledge and ability to assist with day to day operation of the AAA programs
Ability to make good decisions
Be a responsible problem solver
Ability to work efficiently and accomplish necessary duties in required timeframe
Ability to be innovative
Skills to work in a cooperative coordinating way with other agency staff
Ability to communicate and interact with older people and individuals with disabilities
Ability to work with the public
Ability to travel as required and have a valid driver’s license
DUTIES:
Provide customer focused employment opportunities that address the special employment needs of older job seekers and enhance opportunities for employment
Interview participants to assess marketable skills derived from employment, volunteer, vocational background, homemaking and education
Assist participants with job searches by providing technical support, resume development, mock interviews, and job referrals
Strive to successfully place participants in gainful employment and keep accurate records of all placements.
Provide appropriate referrals between older persons seeking jobs and employers requesting workers
Work closely with job service offices, senior centers and other prospective employers to ensure maximum referral of workers to jobs
Follow up with participants after job interviews by offering encouragement and help identify where improvements may be needed
Develop and maintain accurate mailing lists of employers for newsletters and luncheons.
Schedule presentations to service clubs and other groups
Develop media packages to publicize the older workers employment program
Assist in answering and directing calls
Counsel and enroll customers in a Medicare Prescription Drug Program
Complete benefit screenings and assist customers with filling out applications for public based benefits
Complete intakes for service requests and make referrals
KAMIS data entry
Prepare program reports as needed
Assist with quality assurance for AAA programs
Projects and duties as assigned
Benefits:
Workweek is Monday – Friday, 8 am-5pm. Successful applicants will receive holiday, vacation and sick time, and will be eligible for KPERS retirement, dental and health benefits.
