High Plains Mental Health Center is seeking a full-time ACT Certified Peer Specialist to join our team.

SALARY: $24.55 per hour
New employees will receive a $325 sign-on bonus following successful completion of their 90 day orientation period.

The Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team provides non-traditional community based mental health treatment to promote the recovery and community integration of adults with serious mental illnesses and co-occurring substance use and/or serious co-occurring physical health conditions.

Qualifications:
  • Have at least a Bachelor’s degree or be equivalently qualified by a combination of education and work experience in a human service field.
  • Must have “lived experience” and a personal recovery story specific to a behavioral health condition
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with persons with serious mental illness
  • Have a valid Kansas driver’s license with no alcohol related incidents within the last five years.
  • Must also be able to successfully pass an intensive background check.

Summary:
  • The overall goal is to reduce use of ER’s, inpatient hospital stays, and other harmful behaviors. This position focuses on increasing the individual’s ability to live as independently as possible, managing the illness, and reestablishing their community roles.
  • Facilitate a group of people/ individuals working to achieve personal, social, financial, and emotional goals.
  • Provide recovery-oriented activities that are related to individual client needs.
  • Mediate conflicts in a positive and constructive manner that is conducive to the client's goals for recovery.
  • Model appropriate behaviors for clients in recovery.
  • Maintain self-awareness as well as appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Manage own schedule
  • Will be expected to work in a team environment.
  • Provide after-hours on-call crisis services in rotation with other ACT team members
  • The vast majority of services will take place in consumer’s homes and/or in the community
  • All work related travel completed by a Center provided vehicle.
