Fort Hays State University’s Office of Technology Services is hiring a full-time Desktop Engineer to manage 2,500 Windows workstations. This role focuses on deployment strategies, patch management, inventory, Active Directory group policies, and specialized tasks beyond standard desktop support. The position involves developing imaging and deployment techniques specifically for Windows devices. Responsibilities also include software licensing and network printing setup and troubleshooting. The Desktop Engineer may occasionally assist the Mac desktop engineer. Our office covers the entire campus and a few satellite offices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of IT support experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in desktop management.
  • Demonstrated experience with Windows desktop imaging and distribution platforms in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for Windows systems.
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policies.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and projects.
  • Excellent customer relation skills for working with both technical and non-technical users.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical procedures verbally and in writing.
  • Effective collaboration with team members at all levels.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate, plan, test, install, and verify system patches and software upgrades.
  • Assist tier 1 and 2 support with general hardware and software troubleshooting and break/fix repairs of Windows laptops and desktops.
  • Develop efficient imaging and deployment procedures for Windows devices and guide tier 2 staff in execution.
  • Manage Windows devices, including patch management and applying hardened security policies.
  • Work with vendors to troubleshoot and repair software and licensing issues.
  • Seek and test new procedures, scripting, and automation tasks to improve deployment, management, and security of Windows endpoints.
  • Serve as the lead MDM admin for Windows devices.
