The City of Hays’ Solid Waste Division is looking for a dependable Maintenance Worker to assist in providing reliable services to the citizens of Hays. Duties include collecting and processing recyclable materials and special collection items, operate and maintain recycling trucks and equipment, perform safety inspections and substitute as a refuse collector when needed.

Typical working days include Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Friday 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  This position may be required to work a flexible work schedule as needed. 

REQUIREMENTS
Valid driver’s license required.  The ideal candidate would have the ability to read and interpret written instructions, maps, and service manuals and have the ability operate equipment. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, machinery, excessive noise and all types of weather conditions is expected. Strong communication & mechanical skills required. This position requires a CDL Class B within 6 months of employment and has a residency requirement of a 40-minute response time.

COMPENSATION
Starting Pay: $13.39/hour. Starting wage based on experience with the ability to move to a Maintenance Worker II and Senior Maintenance Worker.
