Job Description

School Liaison Position Function:
The purpose of the Behavioral Health School Liaison is facilitating the implementation of a school-based behavioral health model. The liaison is a pivotal member of the school behavioral health team that works collaboratively to address the needs of students in the foster care system, as well other students identified as needing additional behavioral health support. The work of the liaison may extend beyond the school setting to include community and residential settings.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  1. Bachelors level or higher level degree (Masters preferred). School Liaisons should be qualified in behavior intervention, such as school counselors, school social workers, psychologists, or other related field.
  2. Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others, including the ability to communicate effectively with a broad number of audiences.
  3. Ability to manage job responsibilities and meet the established district outcomes.
  4. Ability to use district-identified computer hardware and software, and other district-provided technology as needed

Essential Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Serves as the primary liaison to community mental health partners, family caregivers, child welfare agencies, and school site administration for school-based mental health services with partnering mental health provider
  2. Collaborates with school administrators and community mental health partners to maintain a school based behavioral health team model
  3. Provides consultation to school administration and school mental health team on interventions for students experiencing behavioral and emotional barriers to learning
  4. Assists the behavioral health team in maintaining referral protocols to ensure timely access to school based and/or community based behavioral health services
  5. Supports students and families with accessing and navigating community mental health services and other community-based resources and services
  6. Schedules mental health services for students within the school day to minimize disruption of the school day
  7. Schedules mental health services for students and families outside of the school day as necessary
  8. Maintains accurate records for the purpose of progress monitoring and complying with district and state reporting requirements
  9. Submits reports as required for state reporting requirements and school district purposes
  10. Assists school administrators and school mental health team with the development of student safety and re-entry plans as needed
  11. Provides professional development and coaching to administrators, teachers and counselors on trauma informed and culturally responsive services and supports within the behavioral health model as requested
  12. Provides support to students and staff in crisis response
  13. Participates in district in-service and professional development meetings
  14. Conducts classroom observations of students for the purpose of data collections and fidelity of implementation of the treatment plans
  15. Attends team meetings to participate in the problem-solving model for students and families
  16. Works within the MTSS framework, consults with teachers and staff and facilitates services to alleviate issues impairing a student’s ability to be successful in the regular and special education classrooms
  17. Completes accident and behavioral incident reports for students/staff, as necessary
  18. Compiles data for statistical purposes
  19. Maintains confidentiality regarding educational records and protected health information
  20. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties
 Special Physical Requirements:
  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  2. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  3. Requires some travel.
  4. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
  5. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
 
Other:
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with the provisions of the USD 489 Board of Education.
  2. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
  3. The employee shall serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
