The Director of Business Relations at the Cybersecurity Institute and Technology Incubator is a key position responsible for expanding the institute’s outreach and engagement with Kansas businesses. This role involves extensive outreach to promote the institute’s services, recruit small businesses for micro-internship placements, coordinate training and outreach events, and build strong relationships with the business community.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • 3 years experience in business development, sales, or a related field, preferably with a focus on technology or education.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree (MBA preferred)
  • 5 years experience in business development, sales, or a related field, preferably with a focus on technology or education.
  • Proven track record of successful business outreach and relationship building as explained in application materials.
  • Experience coordinating outreach events.
  • Experience with developing marketing materials and plans.

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills. The ability to work independently, manage a flexible schedule, and willingness and ability to travel extensively within the state of Kansas.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Business Outreach:
  • Connect with and maintain connection with businesses and varied stakeholders in Kansas.
  • Explain the services offered by the Cybersecurity Institute and Technology Incubator and encourage businesses to engage with the institute.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with small and medium-sized businesses to promote cybersecurity and technology initiatives.
  • Follow-up with businesses with interest in services.
  • Lead marketing strategy and ensure execution of marketing plans.

2. Event Coordination:
  • Plan and coordinate training and outreach events tailored to the needs of small businesses.
  • Work closely with the Director of Operations to ensure successful execution of these events.
  • Manage logistics, including venue selection, scheduling, and promotion of events.

3. Schedule Management:
  • Set and manage a personal travel schedule, ensuring efficient and effective coverage of the state.
  • Plan routes and appointments to maximize outreach opportunities.
  • Keep detailed records of visits, meetings, and outcomes.
  • Develop key performance indicators and establish goals

4. Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to align outreach efforts with internship programs and other initiatives.
  • Provide feedback and insights from the field to inform strategic planning and program development.
  • Support the development of marketing materials and presentations for outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with university stakeholders and units to refine and develop efficiencies and synergies related to business and economic impact.
  • Engage with the Professional and Continuing Education (PCE) unit to identify opportunities and develop mutually beneficial initiatives.   

5. Reporting:
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to align outreach efforts with internship programs and other initiatives.
  • Provide feedback and insights from the field to inform strategic planning and program development.
  • Support the development of marketing materials and presentations for outreach activities.
