 The Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Fort Hays State University is seeking applicants for Chair of the Department of Management. The position is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment at the Professor or Associate Professor rank.  The Chair will have excellent communication and organizational skills, have demonstrated leadership as well as management abilities, and understand the needs of faculty, staff and students.   The successful candidate will also have a distinguished record of teaching, research, and service with an understanding and appreciation for on-campus and online methods as well as partnerships. This is an on-campus appointment not eligible for remote work.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited university, from a discipline within the department; general management, human resource management, entrepreneurship, production operations management, business law or a closely related field. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarly accomplishments, and service reflective of levels expected of an associate or full professor;

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Record of successful academic administrative experience including both fiscal and supervisory responsibilities;
  • Demonstrated success with student recruitment and retention initiatives;
  • Experience in formalized assessment;
  • Record of external funding through grants and/or fundraising;
  • Demonstrated success with online education.
  • Experience with external partnerships.
  • Experience with Strategic Planning and new program development.

Responsibilities:  The Chair of the Department of Management reports to the Dean of the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship. The Chair is responsible for the overall management and operation of the department, including:
  • Management of the department budget and other financial resources;
  • Overseeing course scheduling and curriculum management;
  • Initiating and facilitating high-quality academic programs, certificates, partnerships, and other on-campus or online education opportunities;
  • Leading annual program assessment;
  • Goal-setting and performance reviews for faculty and staff.
  • Leading student recruiting and retention efforts for the department;
  • Promoting collegiality within the department, college, and university;
  • Teaching 6 credit hours per semester and 3 credit hours during the summer. Courses may include introductory courses as well as advanced courses in specialized areas, and may be taught through on-campus or online modalities;
  • Ensuring department initiatives align with RCOBE, University and Regents strategic plans;
  • Participating in college and university service activities;
  • Engaging in appropriate scholarly activity.
