The Department of Applied Technology is seeking a 9-month, tenure-track, faculty member who will contribute to our growing Industrial Technology program, including Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Design Technology, and Construction Management. The position’s workload distribution is 70% instruction, 20% service, and 10% research. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate education, display strong communication skills, and be able to work well with students, faculty, and staff.
 
Instruction (70%): The successful candidate will teach a variety of industrial technology courses. The primary teaching responsibility will be to teach and develop courses in industrial management, training and instructional systems, mechanical and electrical systems, robotics, fluid systems, and plastic processes. Ideal candidates will have management experience in industry and/or teaching experience in high tech industrial labs and be able to bring job experience and manufacturing knowledge to the Applied Technology classrooms. This position will have classroom and lab/shop teaching responsibilities. The department has a strong technology and engineering education program, and an emphasis will be placed on blending science, technology, applied engineering, and mathematical concepts into applied industrial courses. The candidate would be expected to teach a general education class of Technology in Society.  The teaching load is 12 credit hours for both fall and spring semesters with a possible summer course overload. Teaching opportunities include theoretical and applied coursework; on-campus and virtual education platforms. Participation in curriculum development, professional organization, undergraduate student mentoring, and activities within the department are required.
Service (20%): The successful candidate will be expected to serve on department and university committees and participate in other appropriate department, college, university, community, and professional service activities.
Scholarship (10%): The successful candidate will be expected to develop a program of scholarly pursuit in his or her discipline area, preferably focused on topics of regional instructional and applied technology interest.

The terminal degree in the Department of Applied Technology is a Master’s plus 10 years of experience in education and/or industry or an earned doctoral degree. 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree with experience in industrial/manufacturing technology and management experience. Candidate must be HLC qualified in industrial technology content.
  • Candidates with a B.S. degree in the preferred discipline and a master’s in comparable field of study will also be considered for this position. 
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry or teaching manufacturing or related fields.


Preferred Qualifications:  
  • PhD, EdD, or Master’s Degree in Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, Technology Education, Engineering Technology, or a related area. 
  • College or university-level teaching.
  • The FHSU Center for Applied Technology is home to course work in industrial technology, CAD, construction, graphics communication, metallurgy, plastics, robotics, and woodworking.  Familiarity with these types of labs are important in the selection process. 
  • Candidates with an understanding of accreditation processes are also desirable for this position, especially those familiar with the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).
  • Experience supervising student organizations.
