The City of Hays is looking for its next career Firefighter.  Duties include, but are not limited to fire prevention, suppress fires and rescue people from danger, and provide emergency medical care.

After completion of the training period, this position works 24-hour shifts (7am – 7am) every third day. Weekend & holiday work is required. Firefighters are expected to respond to recalls and other major emergency calls when off-duty.

Valid driver’s license & high school diploma or GED required. Ability to obtain Firefighter I & EMT Certifications within 12 months of employment. Paid on-the-job training for the right candidate. All Firefighters must establish their primary residence within the approved district within six-months of appointment.  Job offers contingent on pre-employment physical exam & drug screening.

Compensation & Benefits
2023 Starting Base Pay: $48,494 annually plus additional overtime and holiday pay compensation. Lateral transfers welcome—pay based on experience and certifications.
