Position Overview
Under the direct supervision of the Foodservice Manager and Director of Nutritional Service, the cook will prepare, season, and cook for patients, residents, staff and visitors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Determines types and quantities of meats, vegetables and soups to be prepared by reviewing planned meals.
- Ensures meals and nourishments are ready at specified times.
- Over see’s staff when Foodservice Manager is not available.
- Prepares, seasons, and cooks’ food that is palatable and attractive to meet all diet types.
- Follows diets according to modified menus.
- Consults with registered dietitian on modified diets.
- Serves patients and residents according to their diets and requests.
- Maintains salad bar keeping it filled and checks quality of food.
- Follows standardized recipes using appropriate utensils and equipment.
- Maintains high standards of sanitation, housekeeping, and safety in operation and care of equipment.
- Uses proper handling to ensure food safety.
- Always observes infection control practices.
- Taste tests foods being cooked to ensure doneness, flavor, and texture.
- Improves flavor and texture of food as needed.
- Maintains kitchen in a clean, neat and organized manner.
- Assures that proper documentation for food temperatures, freezer and refrigerator temperatures, meal counts, and diet changes are done.
QUALIFICATIONS
· High school graduate or equivalent.
· Previous experience as a cook in the food service industry.
