HHS Family and Consumer Science Teacher

Position Purpose
- Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills and competence in one or more fields of life skills, human services, human growth and development, culinary arts, and restaurant and event management.
Essential Functions
-Develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of work based on locally identified needs which will lead to improved quality of living for families and individuals.
-Develop, lead, and/or teach educational programs which focus on: 1) making healthy choices; 2) nurturing families; 3) embracing life as you age; 4) securing financial stability; 5) promoting healthy homes and communities; 6) consumer sciences programming areas including: food and nutrition; family resource management; human development and family relations; health, safety and wellness; leadership development; clothing and textiles; housing and the use of environment; home-based and micro business.
-Use proven, research-based teaching methods to instruct community members on these curriculum areas.
-Implement educational programs which strengthen families and individuals.
Additional Duties
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
- Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Works in standard office and school building environments.
Qualifications Profile
Certification/License:
- State Certification as a Family and Consumer Science Teacher or as required for position.
Education:
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
