Job Purpose and Objectives:Responsible for providing advanced technical support for Ellis County’s servers, hardware, software, database systems and networks while ensuring stability and privacy of all operating systems. Job Competencies: Essential Functions include the following. Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Schedule and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
  1. Performs network design and capacity planning
  2. Conducts research on network products, services, protocols, and standards, in support of network procurement and development efforts
  3. Installs and maintains network file servers and network operating systems and maintains systems documentation
  4. Provides technical support to users concerning network system operations
  5. Diagnoses problems with network equipment and performs equipment repair or upgrades when appropriate
  6. Installs, configures, and maintains multi-user software to be accessed from file servers
  7. Administers and maintains end user accounts, permissions, and access rights
  8. Installs, configures, and maintains network cabling and other networking equipment such as hubs, switches, and UPS
  9. Oversees installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network connected end-user hardware, software, and peripheral devices
  10. Manages security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems
  11. Works with Information Technology Director in planning, installation, and documentation of network topology
  12. Assists System Administrator with maintenance of VOIP phone system
  13. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
  14. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
  15. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
  16. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
  17. Protects and maintains any confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic
Requirements
Position Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in information technology, management information systems, or business administration with emphasis in information technology
  2. Two years of network installation, programming, configuration, and maintenance experience
  3. Specialization and proficiency in any of the identified specific job function areas requires the following knowledge base:
    1. Proficiency in Windows Server 2008/2012 and tape/disk-based backup equipment
    2. Proficiency in local area networking, disk imaging and Active Directory account/rights maintenance. Expert-level knowledge of Windows client operating system and Intel-based PC hardware troubleshooting and maintenance
    3. Experience supporting copiers and multifunction devices hardware and software
    4. Proficiency in hardware repair for desktops, laptops, printers, and other electronic equipment
    5. Proficiency in network switches, routing protocols, and Aruba wireless networks. Experience with infrastructure availability-monitoring software and equipment
  4. Meet and maintain Kansas Criminal Justice Information System’s (KCJIS) access requirements
Certifications / Licenses:
  1. Valid driver’s license
  2. CompTIA Network+ preferred
  3. CompTIA Security+ preferred
  4. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) preferred
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of the operation, uses, and capabilities of computer equipment
  2. Knowledge of methods and techniques used to maintain and repair computer equipment
  3. Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals and work from sketches, drawings, and diagrams
  4. Ability to carry out maintenance plans and repair schedules for technical resources in a large corporate environment
  5. Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  6. Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently
  7. Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner
  8. Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment
  9. Ability to effectively manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously
