Purchasing Specialist, Department of Central Purchasing
Job Description
The Purchasing Specialist purchases supplies and equipment in compliance with purchasing policies and procedures. Interprets purchasing procedures and communicates to departments and to vendors. A successful candidate should have strong computer skills and have the ability to work independently and also in a team setting. A professional attitude along with excellent customer service skills are necessary. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds when handling freight.
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and one year of appropriate experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Purchasing experience
- Customer Service experience
- Inventory Management experience
- Shipping experience with UPS, FedEx and large freight
- Forklift experience
- Supervisory experience
Responsibilities:
- Identify and maintain lists of eligible vendors and select vendors to procure requisitioned commodities, meeting criteria such as price, quantity, quality, and delivery date.
- Process invoices and requests for payments against requisitions.
- Resolve and answer questions regarding purchasing issues with departments and vendors.
- Responsible for the shipping and receiving parcels and freight, maintaining accurate records and ensuring timely delivery.
- Unload incoming freight delivered to the warehouse.
- Responsible for picking up and delivering mail to and from the Post Office.
- Oversee the filling and delivering of orders to campus departments by student employees.
- Manage the operations of the warehouse when the Purchasing Warehouse Manager is out.
- Help process outgoing mail and sort incoming mail.
- Maintain organization within the warehouse including all inventory.
- Perform yearly warehouse inventory.
- Responsible for hiring and supervising student employees.
Appointment Date: Start date to be determined after acceptance of an offer and completion of criminal background check.
Priority Deadline: October 27th, 2025. Screening of complete applications will begin immediately following the priority deadline and will continue until the position is filled.
Salary: $16.04 per hour
