Purpose
The Automotive Technology Instructional Aide provides support to the Automotive Technology instructors and students at the Hays campus. This position assists with daily classroom and shop activities by supervising and supporting students during hands-on projects, preparing tools and resources, reinforcing proper shop and equipment safety practices, and providing general automotive technical assistance to support and reinforce instructor-led learning.
Minimum Qualifications
· High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) required
· Associates degree preferred
· 2 years of work experience in specific occupational field
· Required knowledge in operation of related instructional equipment
· Technical knowledge and understanding of current industry standards and practices
· Must have excellent organization and communication skills
· Must practice and encourage safety at all times
· Teaching experience is preferred, but not required
· Basic computer knowledge/skills preferred
· Employment is dependent on a pre-employment background screening
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
· Where applicable, must be able to lift and handle 75 lbs, also able to push/pull up to 10-25 lbs frequently
· Where applicable, must be able to stand or walk for extended periods and frequently climb stairs, ladders, crouch, squat or crawl
· Will use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
· Potential/frequent exposure to and use of chemical products
· Frequent use of power tools
· Will occasionally work in extremely hot or extremely cold conditions, and movement between hot and cold environments occasionally
· Possible stress due to deadlines and/or dealing with unpleasant or angry people
Essential Functions & Job Duties
· Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
· Be observant, dependable, and willing to assist students as needed.
· Possess general automotive knowledge; prior automotive experience or knowledge is preferred.
· Provide assistance and resources to Technology instructors.
· Assist instructors in maintaining a safe learning environment by following and modeling proper safety practices.
· Support instructors during shop time by supervising students, providing technical assistance, and guiding students as they work on shop projects.
· Observe and assess students’ abilities and help measure competency throughout the learning process.
· Provide additional assistance to students who may be struggling with concepts in the classroom or shop.
