Fort Hays State University (FHSU) Department of Nursing, as part of the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences (CHBS), is seeking a full-time, Academic Program Specialist.  This position is responsible for providing guidance and information to prospective nursing students and facilitates the admission process for all department programs.  This position reviews application materials and program information to ensure minimum admission and progression requirements are met for all programs.  This position is responsible for data collection for the purpose of state and national reporting as directed by the department chair. 

Minimum Qualifications:  High School Diploma or equivalent with three years of experience in an office or administrative position. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft products including, word, excel, and access
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Capable of producing precise and detailed work
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff and the public

Responsibilities:  Accepts phone calls, emails, and walk-ins to answer question concerning nursing programs.  Visits with prospective students from the Admission Office. Counsels students on the creation of their course schedule as it pertains to the admission process. Gathers and manages academic admission information for pre-nursing students.  Charts and analyzes semester grades and submits qualified students' admission information to Chair's Office for approval.  Facilitates the collection and review of application materials to ensure minimum admission requirements are met for all programs.  Coordinates data collection and analysis of student and faculty information for departmental, state and national reports.  Manages and reports progression data to the department chair.

Appointment Date:  August 2024

About the Department:  Fort Hays State University Department of Nursing serves undergraduate students in a traditional on-campus BSN program and a virtual RN to BSN program. The department offers a Master’s of Nursing Education degree and a Master’s of Nursing Administration degree. In summer of 2016, the department launched a Doctorate of Nursing Practice program with an emphasis as a Family Nurse Practitioner for BSN to DNP students. At that time, they also launched a Post Master’s Doctorate of Nursing Practice program for APRNs.
