Ensure Russell Regional Hospital Health Information Management Department complies with all certification, accreditation, and licensing standards. Develop, revise, and maintain departmental policies and procedures and interpret each to personnel, patients, Medical Staff, and the public, as required. Develop annual budget – anticipating needs, trends, and staffing requirements. Strong management skills for both maintaining appropriate staff levels and motivating the HIM team. All in accordance with Russell Regional Hospital Policies and Procedures. Maintain accurate records, reports, and pertinent statistical data regarding services provided, as well as ongoing needs analysis and evaluation of the HIM program. Extract basic and follow-up information from patient records for compilation of tumor registry. | Supervise Health Information Management personnel, insuring an accurate, high quality medical record for each patient receiving services in the Russell Regional Hospital. Work directly with the Medical Staff, ensuring that all charts are complete and up-to-date. Inform members of the Medical Staff of changes in regulations which may have an impact upon current admission practices. Supervise the release of all medical information requested for legal purposes, by third party payors, etc., in accordance with release of information policies and HIPAA regulations. Assign and/or validate diagnostic and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT systems. Coordinate DRG functions. Ensure correct coding and sequencing of diagnoses. Work with the Business Office to ensure proper coding and timely billing process as it relates to the medical record. Recommend new equipment, as necessary, to maintain a high level of productivity in the Health Information Management Department. Educate and supervise staff members on scanning health information. Prepare records for outside audit including, but not limited to, Kansas Heart and Stroke Collaborative and Insurance Companies. Track daily/weekly uncoded charts to manage and report status of coding/billing process with expectation of coding levels being maintained at appropriate levels. Report chart deficiencies to Providers and Administration to ensure timely completion of health information records. Technology literate – operate across various online applications and business office equipment. Serve on various Hospital Committees as requested. Attend meetings/workshops to further education and share information with staff.
