The Advanced Education Programs department, housed in the College of Education at Fort Hays State University (FHSU), offers award-winning, fully online graduate-level programs at the master’s and education specialist levels. We invite qualified applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position. The position's primary responsibility is instruction in research, overseeing capstone projects, and coordinating three Ed.S. degree programs: Education Administration, Education Innovation & Leadership, and Leadership in Reading. Instructional assignments may also include coursework in curriculum and instruction, as well as leadership, with the expectation that the faculty member will also engage in scholarly activity and university/professional service. The areas of responsibility are apportioned at 52.5% Teaching/Advising, 7.5% Program Coordination, 20% Scholarship, and 20% Service. Responsibilities will also include advising, supervising portfolio students, and assisting with accreditation.
Successful candidates should be well-rounded, with diverse institutional, educational, research, and experiential backgrounds; practical/relevant experience in education leadership and teaching in higher education; and a record of scholarly activity and service to the larger community. Successful candidates should also have experience and a successful record in online teaching. This is a full-time, on-campus or limited residency, nine-month appointment, with summer teaching available as an overload.
Minimum Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate in curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, educational administration, or a closely related discipline is required.
- Experience as a Pre K-20 educator, leader, or administrator
- Instructional experience in a higher education setting, specifically teaching online (minimum of 2 years)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Instructional experience working with graduate-level candidates
- Demonstrated experience teaching research, overseeing graduate research projects, theses, or dissertations
- Demonstrated record of scholarly activity
- Demonstrated commitment to professional service activities.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring and advising graduate students
- Practical/relevant experience in PreK-20 school systems

- Instruction/Student Advisement (52.5%) - The candidate filling this position will be expected to teach the equivalent of 12 credit hours per semester at the graduate level within the Ed.S. programs. Instructional responsibility includes teaching online courses to post-master’s-level candidates. Student advisement includes onboarding new graduate students, guiding students through the program, monitoring student progress, supporting accreditation data collection, and administering comprehensive exams.
- Program Coordination (7.5%) – The candidate filling this position will serve as the Program Coordinator for the Ed.S. degree programs: Education Administration, Education Innovation & Leadership, and Leadership in Reading. Coordination responsibilities include:
- Creating and managing the course schedule.
- Guiding program curriculum.
- Focusing on data collection/analysis for accreditation.
- Marketing and recruitment for the program.
- Scholarship (20%) - A commitment to scholarship related to the field of education is required. Examples of acceptable scholarship include peer-reviewed book/journal publications, grant proposals, the development of innovative educational programs, and conference presentations.
- Service (20%) - A commitment to service activities is required. This includes service activities at FHSU, department, college, and university levels. Service activities as related to the field of education and are also expected at the national, regional/state, and local/community levels.

The Advanced Education Programs Department is housed in the College of Education at Fort Hays State University. This department offers thirty Master’s and Education Specialist programs for candidates pursuing advanced endorsements or degrees in educational or community settings. All programs are offered fully online, except for some courses in clinical mental health counseling and school counseling. Our programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and the two counseling programs are accredited through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

The College of Education at Fort Hays State University houses two departments. The Teacher Education Department focuses on supporting candidates in pursuing initial teaching licensure. The Advanced Education Programs Department supports candidates pursuing advanced endorsements and degrees in educational or community settings.
