 Fort Hays State University seeks an Assistant Director of Student Engagement to serve as a member of the Student Engagement team. As a member of the Student Engagement team, the Assistant Director will assist with all areas within the department. The Student Engagement staff oversees engagement, leadership development, fraternity and sorority life, transition and family programs and student organizations. Student Engagement is the central hub of student organizations and activities. Our centralized programming board works collaboratively to provide social and educational experiences for students. There are over 120 student organizations, including fraternities and sororities, on campus. Our team provides resources, support, and information on how to become an engaged leader on our campus. This is an on-campus position. The employee will report to the Fort Hays State University campus to fulfill job duties.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to collaborate effectively across campus, as well as in the community and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will also be able to provide evidence of implementing unique and innovative initiatives contributing to student success.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree OR five years of full-time experience specifically working in the following student engagement areas: student activities, leadership, fraternity & sorority life, student organizations, and family programs.
  • Experience developing a centralized programming model to cultivate student belonging and engagement.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience OR seven years of experience working in the following student engagement areas: student activities, leadership, diversity, fraternity & sorority life, student organizations, and family programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with developing a centralized programming board.
  • Budget planning and management.
  • Demonstrated experience with student fees and reporting/requesting funding from Student Government Association.

Responsibilities: 
The Assistant Director is responsible for overseeing student organizations and other student engagement initiatives. Support student organizations and leaders, assist with developing service projects, leadership development programs, and establish distinctive co-curricular experiences. The Assistant Director coordinates TigerLink, a Campus Labs student engagement platform. 

  • Support the Student Engagement team by providing expertise on student belonging, engagement, and success through research, assessment, and action plans to advance Student Engagement for all students at Fort Hays State University.
  • Provide expertise and/or coordinate student organization management and training opportunities to increase student belonging and engagement.
  • Coordinate TigerLink and provide data management/reports to various university departments.
  • Coordinate the Back-to-School Picnic and Forty Days at the Fort.
  • Coordinate service projects and leadership development programs.
  • Assist with student conference experiences; Black & Gold Leadership Academy, Ad Astra First Generation Conferences, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Mountain Movers Summit, and Kansas Leadership Center experiences.
  • Assist with the development of co-curricular programming.
  • Assist in data collection and assessment of co-curricular learning.
  • Assist with programming efforts and campus/community collaborations. 
  • Assist in building a comprehensive programming unit for the Center for Student Success.
  • Assist with annual event registrations and reservations with the Memorial Union.
  • Assist with the coordination and delivery of Tiger Team, student volunteers for departmental programs, initiatives, and events.
  • Coordinate and/or facilitate student and staff participation in regional and national conferences.
  • Assist with website changes and updates.
  • Assist with training workshops, outreach, and support programs.
  • Serve on committees within and externally to the division.
